Goodbye July

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

Three months down.

Three months to go.

Maybe.

That’s the way it is in Mark’s Den.

And how is your last day of July, 2017 going?

Sunday Golden Text: What Is Sin?

Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.

Waning Interest

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

As the rain falls across the Cornfield, I sit having a nebulizer treatment while I enter my post.

What has become increasingly obvious these last few days and weeks is how much my interest in almost everything is decidedly waning.

Politics holds no allure. There are no shows on television which pique my desire to not miss, follow the story line.

All I want to do is sit in my recliner and play computer games until bedtime.

That’s the way it is in Mark’s Den.

And how is your Thursday going?

Making It

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

Best I can say on this beautiful, but cooler Tuesday morning is I am making it. The pressure remains intense on my airways.

Iohn has begun the move to live with his latest squeeze. Without a caregiver, I am doing as well as I can. Fortunately, Mom and Susie have stepped up their assistance.

I am making it. Any help is appreciated.

Yet Another Week Begins

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

Today marks  the beginning of the last  full week of July. The fourth month since being informed my days are number will too soon be  upon us.

I survived the weekend of thunderstorms. Some were quite violent at times.

Susie told me yesterday she and Dad were without power several times Saturday night. Tree limbs had fallen all over their yard. While I slept my power went out once.

I survived alone with Chooey and Frankie as companions.

Iohn spent the weekend with his new interest. Iohn is helping her, her Mom and children move  to Sullivan. Iohn plans to move in with her within the next couple of weeks.

This will leave me without a caregiver. Unless I am blessed by Hailey’s efforts, I will be unable to pay someone to care for me.

Staying Awake

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

The issue this Friday is staying awake as the heat and humidity smothering the Cornfield leaves a mist of lethargy, infecting the body. That sleep-inducing, invisible spray has attacked my system for days now.

My home healthcare aide was by to bathe me today, but that was not enough to shoo away the doldrums. Likewise, my nurse checked in, but did not have antidote for the drowsies.

While Tabitha was here, I did discuss with her the idea of a lung transplant. She said she would confer with my pulmonologist about the possibility and practicality. Tabitha will also inquire what criteria I must meet for placement on the waiting list.

And how is your Friday going?

Thank You, Angels!

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

Over the last nearly six years since I was infected with histoplasmosis,  the Good Lord has provided a number of angel.s to minister to me.  For each of them I am grateful.

In addition to the love and support of family, these people have been a real blessing. Sometimes the help has come unexpectedly, but right at a moment I needed it and no one knew.

Most recently I have to offer my thanks to these angels: Lisa and Larry, Hailey’s Mom and Dad; Kellye and Zachary, friends of Kev’s and Hailey; my sister from Sri Lanka on the other side of the world and former iReporter, Shari; and faithful Citizen Journalists Live subscriber, Ronald.

Then there are those other angels through the years, former iReporters: Maria, Kathi, Janie, Linda, Keith, Stan, Hilary, Matt and others. They were there at various times especially when I was able to escape to the Desert in the summer of 2015.

My Desert friend Bonnie has been there to bust my chops at times for more than 10 years now.

To all of you, from my heart, “Thank you!”

Survived!

Delve into the light and dark that is Mark

Last night was an adventure fraught with trepidation. For the first time since I was told on May 9th my days were numbered, I spent the night in Mark’s Den alone.

My only companionship was Chooey and Frankie II, Iohn’s fur baby.

Iohn was spending the night with his latest squeeze. I was on my own.

To his credit, Iohn tried to set things to make it easier on me. Unfortunately, the weather made for a rough night.

At first I thought I would have to sleep in my recliner. Every movement wiped me out. But as bed time neared, I decided I would push myself and make it to the bedroom. Managing to make it to my bed, after my nightly prayer, I settled in for the duration.

Sleep was too brief.

I had gone to bed at 1 a.m. At 4 a.m., I woke. Unable to go back to sleep, I made my way to the living room. I have been bright-eyed and bushy-tailed ever since.

I survived the night alone.

That’s the way it is this midweek day.

And how is your Wednesday going?
