Sunday Golden Text – Wings

And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! for then would I fly away, and be at rest.
– Psalm 55:6

Sunday Gospel: How Long Has It Been

Written by the late, great Mosie Lister, “How Long Has It Been” has always been one of my favorites.

Here I am privileged to sing it with The Crystal Valley Quartet. I am also the pianist.

Sunday Gospel: ‘Til the Storm Passes By

As thunderstorms roll through the Cornfield, this song is most appropriate.

Sunday Gospel: He Took My Sins Away

From the children’s choir of the LightHouse Chapel of Dugger, IN from around 30 years ago brings us this week’s Sunday Gospel.

The LightHouse Beacons as they were known were under the direction of Nancy Shipley, who also was pianist. Mom, Sharon Hollifield, was the organist. I also occasionally served as pianist. The late Reverend Jack Hollifield was pastor.

This is the last recording I have of the Beacons.

Sunday Gospel – He’s Still Working on Me

From the children’s choir of the LightHouse Chapel of Dugger, IN from around 30 years ago brings us this week’s Sunday Gospel.

The LightHouse Beacons as they were known were under the direction of Nancy Shipley, who also was pianist. Mom, Sharon Hollifield, was the organist. I also occasionally served as pianist. The late Reverend Jack Hollifield was pastor.

This week’s song is a traditional children’s song, but with a message that adults – especially in today’s world – should take to heart. Pay no attention to the quality of the video, but of the words of the song.

Enjoy – He’s Still Working on Me!

Sunday Gospel: Alive & Well – The Album

Over the months I have shared songs performed by The Crystal Valley Quartet. This Sunday is the full album: Alive & Well.

Some of the songs, the group allowed me to be featured, including the theme song, which I wrote, Crystal Valley.

The group has changed in personnel over the years, with none of the original members.

During one of my stays at Regional Hospital, the current lead singer, who is also a nurse, told me that  the group still pulls out my theme song from time to time.

I was pianist for the group and a founding member. All of these songs were from that time.

Alive & Well was recorded live at the Mount Olivet Christian Church on State Road 46 east of Spencer, Indiana.

Enjoy!

Sunday Gospel: The Wind Is Blowing Again

In the 1980s and 1990s, my step-father, Reverend Jack L. Hollifield, founded and pastored a small church in Dugger, Indiana called The LightHouse Chapel.

Jack had to retire after he was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, but to the end, he persevered.

Over the years we had a very active youth choir known as The LightHouse Beacons. The group was a member of the Greene County Gospel Music Association for awhile.

This Sunday’s Gospel comes from a cassette recording of a live performance at The LightHouse Chapel.

My Aunt Nancy Shipley served as the director and pianist. I was also sometimes on the piano. Mom (Sharon Hollifield) was on the organ.

Most of the choir was made up of cousins: Leticia (my Sister), David and Joseph (Uncle Allen’s sons), Travis (Aunt Nancy’s son), Tonya and Anna (Aunt Donna’s daughters) along with several other children from both Sullivan and Greene counties.

I had to record it from the cassette onto a cell phone voice recorder then upload to my computer. Next I had to convert the file to be usable.

Enjoy – The Wind Is Blowing Again!

Sunday Gospel: Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now

Today’s Sunday Gospel is a classic song by the late, great Rusty Goodman. I take the lead with backup from the Crystal Valley Quartet.

The song was recorded live at the Mt. Olivet Christian Church a bit east of Spencer, Indiana.

Enjoy: I Wouldn’t Take Nothing for My Journey Now!

Sunday Gospel: Gospel Originals

As promised this week I have put together the full album of Gospel Originals as written and performed by Mom (Sharon Hollifield).

The album, audio only, was originally recorded around 2000 in the studio of the late Woody Power in Farmersburg, Indiana. Woody also added sound effects to the album such as trumpets and other horns.

In addition, Woody brought down another female vocalist from Terre Haute to help out with harmonies on the songs.

Mom was the lyricist, composer and vocalist for the project. The songs, which God inspired her to write, have been sung in various churches throughout the Cornfield.

Doing my part, I was the pianist/keyboardist, doing harmonies and helping with the arrangements.

Today’s offering is the nine songs, in video format, which have already been featured as Sunday Gospel on one full video.

Enjoy!

Sunday Gospel: His Grace Is Sufficient for Thee

The final inclusion from Mom’s (Sharon Hollifield) Gospel Originals album is this song which provided a lot of solace during the last 18 months of her husband, my step-father, the Reverend Jack L. Hollifield’s life.

Shortly after Jack was diagnosed with terminal cancer, God gave Mom these words.

Hopefully they will also provide comfort and inspiration to you.

Enjoy:  His Grace Is Sufficient for Thee

Next week I will be putting together all the songs for a full album of Gospel Originals to upload.
