Drinkers either don't get it or refuse to get it. Drinkers don't realize that what comes out of their mouths while imbibing quite often reveal their true thoughts, opinions, feelings. Often they even forget what they have said. They also fail to accept or acknowledge that these words spoken while in an alcohol-induced daze can have very real impact and very tearing injury to other parties.

The old saying goes that sticks and stones my break my bones, but words will never hurt me. It sounds good in theory, but in practicality it doesn't hold water. Ask any school child harassed, humiliated and derided by fellow classmates if the words do not hurt. Ask those teens, adults and seniors in therapy about the damage that words have and do cause.

Drinking words aren't just words. Drinking words in most instances are revelations of the hidden. If drinkers ever accept this will it change anything? It is doubtful. But drinkers need to acknowledge that drinking words can hurt.
